A custom designed model is no problem, in fact its our specialty! If you own your own airplane, fly for a living, fly for the fun of it or just like planes, you can have it just the way you want it. For example, one of our customers, an Air Force pilot, ordered a giant model of his squadron's F-16 fighters. We gave him exactly what he wanted.....an almost life-size replica with his squadron's custom paint scheme on the tail. He also wanted some special nose-art: a panel sized "fire-engine red" medieval image of a flying devil with a pitchfork passing by a castle, to match his tactical call sign (DEMON). A little unusual perhaps, but no problem for Mahogany Models. Of course he wanted his name and that of his crew chief printed in block letters along the canopy rail. The whole thing is a done-deal and "The Major" is well pleased. His massive model is over six feet long and weights about sixty pounds! He suspended this beauty from the ceiling of his aircraft hangar. (The guy has his own airplane too) You've got to see it to believe it! Another customer was an old helicopter buff interested in Vietnam era military rescue helicopters. He wanted a Huskie HH-43B chopper. In fact he ordered two, one for himself and one for an old friend. They're enjoying them now. Perhaps the strangest of all was a customer of ours who ordered a model of his personal airplane, a 1946 Luscombe 8A that he crashed into the weeds years ago! He sent us just "after" pictures because there were no "before" photos. From the color pictures of a crashed airplane we built a perfect mahogany replica of his beloved Luscombe in full detail with matching paint scheme, when it was still all in one piece. Although he managed to walk away with a few broken bones he wanted more than just an old tattered polaroid to preserve the memories of his old plane. Now he's got it, fully intact, in brilliant color, sitting on his desk. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) wanted exact replicas of a wide variety of their high altitude research airplanes that posess some very unusual characteristics. Not a problem for us.
All we ever really need is a good picture. If its a home-built aircraft or an aircraft type that is rare, we may need a few of the actual dimensions to scale the model appropriately. In any case you can have something special of your own with no fuss on your part. You can go to any hobby shop and get all sorts of cheap plastic (meaning very breakable) models and put them together yourself. But why? I for one, was never any good at gluing plastic parts together. I always had too much glue smeared all over the place. My models always seemed to look like glazed donuts. Why not give it to the pro's .......master craftsmen who can carve almost anything precisely from a hunk of mahogany hardwood. Wait until you see the paint job on your model. You won't be disappointed. It takes a little time to produce such a work of art, but we promise its well worth the wait. If you're interested in something special that you'll love for years and years, simply E-mail us at info@mahoganymodels.com and tell us what you want. We'lll shoot back a quote to you and provide the simple instructions so you can place your order without delay. Simple enough? Remember: Check Six and Fly Safe! |
